Muricidae Shells

The Muricidae, commonly known as murex or rock shells, represent one of the most sculpturally diverse families of marine gastropods. This collection features carefully selected specimens valued for their pronounced varices, spination, and complex shell architecture. All examples originate from deep-water habitats of the Dry Tortugas region and are preserved with accurate collection data. This fauna has also produced recently described taxa such as Chicoreus riverai Petuch & Berschauer, 2026, a species from the Tortuga Terrace deep-water community, reflecting the ongoing taxonomic discovery and scientific importance of this western Atlantic collecting area.
