This is a beautiful specimen of Fasciolaria bittneri, a recently described species from the Dry Tortugas region of Florida.

This shell displays the elegant elongated form typical of the genus along with strong patterning and a rich orange interior aperture. A distinctive feature of this species is the orange protoconch, which helps differentiate it from other western Atlantic tulip shells.

This specimen was personally collected by me while commercial lobster fishing aboard my vessel F/V AVA PILAR.
