Offered here is a beautiful specimen of the recently described Fasciolaria bittneri, a species endemic to the Dry Tortugas region of Florida. This specimen displays the classic traits outlined in the original description, including the elevated spire, rounded sloping shoulder, bright orange protoconch, and the characteristic pattern of broad orange-red patches over a pale background. The aperture is large and glossy white with a nicely developed columellar region, making for an attractive display specimen.
This specimen was personally collected by me using baited lobster traps in the Dry Tortugas and represents one of the exciting newer additions to the Gulf of Mexico molluscan fauna. The vibrant coloration and excellent preservation make it a fine representative of this recently described species.
