Phyllonotus whymani – 14.2 mm – Pulley Ridge, Dry Tortugas, FL

I personally collected this Phyllonotus whymani while commercial lobster fishing on Pulley Ridge, west of the Dry Tortugas. This attractive specimen displays pleasing orange coloration, a glossy surface, and excellent provenance from one of the Gulf of America’s most productive deep-water shell habitats.

Condition

This specimen retains attractive natural color, a glossy surface, and strong overall form. There is noticeable damage to the outer lip and siphonal canal consistent with deep-water commercial trap collection, but the shell remains solid and displays well. A desirable personally collected specimen with exceptional locality data from Pulley Ridge.
