A Massive Florida Horse Conch from Key West

Offered here is an impressive Triplofusus giganteus (Kiener, 1840), the Florida Horse Conch and the largest gastropod native to North American waters. Measuring an outstanding 444 mm (17.48 inches), this giant specimen displays the elongated siphonal canal, inflated body whorl, and attractive cream to peach-orange banding that make large Horse Conchs so desirable among advanced collectors.

The shell is accompanied by its original operculum and was diver collected from the waters off Key West. Large Horse Conchs of this size are increasingly difficult to obtain, making this an impressive display specimen for any serious collection.

 

Condition

A beautiful large collector specimen with excellent natural coloration and an attractive glossy aperture. The specimen retains strong growth sculpture and comes with the original operculum.

As is typical for Horse Conchs of this exceptional size, the shell exhibits minor chips to the outer lip and protoconch, along with natural growth marks acquired during its lifetime. These are common characteristics of mature giant specimens and do not detract from the shell’s impressive display quality.
