This is a nice specimen of Vokesimurex ribidus, a distinctive muricid species from the Dry Tortugas region of Florida.
This shell displays the strong sculpture and frilled varices typical of the genus along with attractive orange coloration. Specimens collected with accurate locality and depth data from the Dry Tortugas are desirable to collectors of western Atlantic Muricidae.
This specimen was personally collected by me while commercial lobster fishing aboard my vessel F/V AVA PILAR.
