Chicoreus rachelcarsonae – Pulley Ridge – 32.4mm – Rare Orange Form – F+++ w/o

Exceptional specimen of the very rare Chicoreus rachelcarsonae Petuch, 1987 personally collected by me from the deep-water Pulley Ridge fauna off the Dry Tortugas. This species is seldom encountered in high grade condition, and exceptional specimens with this level of coloration and preservation are extremely difficult to obtain.

This specimen displays beautiful orange-to-peach coloration with a vivid orange apex, expanded frondose varices, and exceptionally crisp sculpturing throughout. The broad wing-like fronds and heavily layered varices give the shell outstanding eye appeal and make it one of the finer examples of the species I have collected.

Collected by baited lobster trap in approximately 240–300 feet from the famous Pulley Ridge deep-water ecosystem. Fragile species such as this are highly susceptible to damage during collection, making well-preserved specimens especially desirable to advanced muricid collectors.
