An outstanding specimen of Chicoreus riverai Petuch & Berschauer, 2026 personally collected by me during deep-water lobster trapping operations off the Dry Tortugas. Recently described in 2026, this species is one of the most exciting new muricid discoveries from the Tortuga Terrace fauna and remains extremely scarce in collections. The species was named in my honor for contributions to the discovery and collection of the Dry Tortugas deep-water fauna.
This specimen displays the exaggerated frondose sculpture the species is known for. The shell shows beautiful cream-to-peach coloration with an especially attractive orange apex and strong layered varices covered in delicate frills and branching spines. A very displayable specimen with exceptional character and detail throughout.
This specimen was baited lobster trap collected in deep water from approximately 240–300 feet and retains the natural appearance typical of trap-collected material. Minor imperfections and wear are present and considered normal for deep-water collected specimens of this fragile species.
