Exceptional large specimen of Chicoreus riverai Petuch & Berschauer, 2026 personally collected by me during deep-water lobster trapping operations off the Dry Tortugas. Recently described in 2026, this remarkable species was named in my honor for contributions to the discovery and collection of the Dry Tortugas deep-water fauna.
This specimen stands out for its unusually heavy frond development, broad layered varices, and beautiful pink-toned apex contrasting against the cream and chocolate-banded body coloration. The expanded fronds and strong sculpturing give the shell an outstanding three-dimensional appearance and exceptional display quality.
Collected from the famous Tortuga Terrace deep-water fauna in approximately 240–300 feet using baited lobster traps. Specimens of this fragile species are rarely encountered in this level of preservation, especially in larger sizes with strong frond development.
