Collector Notes
The Thrush Cowrie (Naria turdus) is an Indo-Pacific species that has become established in portions of South Florida and the Florida Keys. While considered an introduced species in the region, it remains a fascinating addition to Gulf and Florida shell collections due to its attractive spotted pattern, glossy porcelain finish, and unique biogeographic history.
This specimen was personally collected from a commercial lobster trap set at approximately 180 feet on Tortuga Terrace, Florida. Deep-water specimens from this area are not commonly encountered and represent an interesting record of the species’ continued presence in the region.
