Beautiful Scaphella mercedesae personally collected by me from the Tortuga Terrace region of the Dry Tortugas while commercial lobster fishing aboard my vessel, F/V AVA PILAR. This species was recently described by Petuch & Berschauer in 2026 and was named in honor of my mother, making this a particularly meaningful and historic specimen within my personal collecting work.
