Scaphella mercedesae 116.8mm – Recently Described 2026 – Named for My Mother – Tortuga Terrace – Rivera Coll.

 

Beautiful Scaphella mercedesae personally collected by me from the Tortuga Terrace region of the Dry Tortugas while commercial lobster fishing aboard my vessel, F/V AVA PILAR. This species was recently described by Petuch & Berschauer in 2026 and was named in honor of my mother, making this a particularly meaningful and historic specimen within my personal collecting work.

Excellent collector specimen showing strong natural color, pattern, and structure. As typical with trap-collected deep-water shells, minor handling or trap marks may be present — normal for legitimately collected commercial fishery material.
