Description

 

 

Outstanding deep-water specimen of the recently described species Scaphella mercedesae (2026), collected from 180–200 feet off the Dry Tortugas via lobster trap. Displays elevated spire, slender body, bold patterning, and impressive size typical of this striking volute.

 

This species was named in honor of my mother, adding special historical and personal significance to the specimen. Personally collected and professionally curated as part of the Tortugas Shell Collection, complete with full collection data.
