Personally collected by Doug Thompson while scuba diving off Panama City Beach, Florida, this vibrant Spondylus americanus displays exceptional contrast between its brilliant orange-red umbo and creamy white shell. The specimen is adorned with numerous long, delicate spines radiating across the upper valve, giving it an impressive and dramatic appearance.
The shell exhibits strong coloration with a fiery orange central disc that fades into cream and white tones toward the margins. Long, well-developed spines remain present across much of the specimen, creating excellent visual appeal and making this a standout display piece for collectors of Gulf of Mexico thorny oysters.
