Personally collected by Doug Thompson while scuba diving off Panama City Beach, Florida, this colorful Spondylus tenuis showcases exceptional orange-red coloration with striking cream and yellow foliated spines. The vivid contrast and ornate sculpture make this specimen a beautiful addition to any collection of Western Atlantic thorny oysters.

This specimen displays a richly colored upper valve with dense radial sculpture, numerous elongated foliated spines, and attractive orange, red, and cream tones throughout. The lower valve retains bright yellow-orange coloration and creates a dramatic contrast with the darker upper valve. The specimen possesses excellent visual appeal and displays well from multiple angles.

Condition

A colorful articulated specimen with strong sculpture and attractive foliated spine development. Minor wear, natural growth irregularities, and some broken spine tips are present, as expected for this species. Areas of natural encrustation remain and add character to the specimen.
